about us

Learn about centuries old Nether Farm and our land. Explore our grasslands and woodland, go fishing along the private stretch of our river and relax with a BBQ in the evening.

About Nether Farm

Nether Farm is an 80 acre estate of private farmland set within the Derbyshire countryside. It is tucked into the side of the Henmore Valley and surrounded by pastureland and the small hamlet of Nether Sturston.

We purchased the farm when it was unloved and derelict and have spent the last 20 years renovating the mid 17th century buildings to contemporary standards. Along the way we’ve also added roundhouses.

The grounds are farmed along organic farming principles and wildlife is abundant. The Henmore valley is home to a number of endangered and or threatened species including Red Kites, white clawed crayfish, water vole and visiting otters. Kingfishers and woodpeckers are a common sight.

Explore Nether Farm

Nether Farm comprises 80 acres of private farmland with no public access. It includes grazing land, fledgling woodland, grasslands and the Henmore Brook.

Why not walk the grounds. Scrump apples off the trees along the drive, forage sloes from the hedgerow to make sloe gin (after the first frosts of course!). Our crab apples make delicious jelly and the wild garlic works wonders on the bbq.

Paddle in the river, and search for minnows, play pooh sticks or simply walk and watch for kingfishers or occasionally visiting otter.

Fishing: The Henmore Brook is available for fly fishing on a strictly catch and release basis. Guests are welcome to fish for £20.00 a day but must ensure they have their fishing licence available to show the water bailiff if requested.

Firepit/BBQ Area: We wanted guests to take pleasure in slow living outdoors so we have curated a specially designed covered firepit and bbq area to meet with family and friends. Whether it’s a summers evening or the middle of winter this is an ideal space for getting together maybe for a special birthday or anniversary or simply to enjoy an evening under the stars with a roaring fire, a bbq and a few beers.
